Arrival of Dylan, our Little Prince
Wednesday, August 31, 2011

This has become a forgotten blog.. And I am guilty for not updating anything at all.. Isabelle takes up 100% of our time! Well, yes, I was pregnant for the 2nd time, and have just given birth. Here's a little introduction to our little prince, Dylan.

I conceived in December 2010 (if I am not wrong), and the EDD is 09 September 2011 (lunar date falls on the same day as Belle's lunar bday!). Our gynae is still Dr Chen Chern Yi due to previous LSCS (lower segment cesaerean section) and we are afraid to take more risks. This pregnancy passed by relatively faster due to time preoccupied by Belle. I was very worried on how Belle would take to her little brother, but thank goodness, so far all's well.

First Checkup with Dr Chen on 15 Jan - Mummy's weight 63.3kg (yes, I've yet to shed off the weight and fats from Belle's time)

29 Jan - 64.4 kg
Baby was 1.71 cm

26 Feb - 63.8kg (Mummy had been feeling nausea and totally no appetite, hence the drop in weight)
Baby was 6.5cm. This was the day of the NT test (Nuchal translucency test) whereby the neck skin was measured. Neck skin measured 1.9mm (good range), and blood was taken from Mummy for a blood test. Tried on the left arm, but no blood came out, and Dr Chen had to poke from the right! So Mummy ended up with 2 blue blacks!

24 March - 64.8kg
Baby measures 11.01cm and had his legs crossed, thus gender unknown at that juncture.

27 April - 66.9kg
This is the detailed scan day where we did the DS at TMC. Baby's weight is 374grams and head circumference is slightly on the high average, all's well. It's confirmed, baby is a boy!

26 May - 68.3kg
Baby weighs 854grams.

26 June - 67.7kg
Baby weighs 1.431kg. This is also the day where the OGTT (oral glucose tolerance test) is taken. Mummy had to fast from 12 midnight to the next day, not even a single drop of water is allowed! Blood is taken 3 times at 1 hour intervals to measure the sugar level. *praying hard for good results* And yes, 3 days later, the clinic assistant called me to inform me of the good news, I had passed my OGTT, which means no pricking of fingers, and I can wallop durians!!

19 July - 70.8kg
Baby is 2.15kg

28 July - 70.6kg
Mummy is admitted into MAH for overnight observation due to cramps felt. 2 injections were given to mature baby's lungs, in the event its really preterm contraction. Discharged the next day as no contractions were observed. Dr Chen issued 11 days of HL for Mummy to rest at home, which means no more shopping and strictly to stay at home and do nothing but rest!

08 August - 71.5kg
Baby is 2.4kg
Mummy is worried baby is on the smaller scale as Dr Chen is suggesting delivery on 22nd August. Daddy and Mummy are totally not prepared for 22nd August as we had planned on 29th August! Nevertheless, we have another week to think about it, so we shelved the date aside and Mummy decided to embark on a eating career - eat all she wants and all she can to beef up baby!

20 August - 73.7kg
Baby is 2.97kg
All righty! It has been decided, 22nd August it will be! Baby Dylan will be out on 22nd August evening!

BIRTH STORY OF DYLAN

Admitted into MAH at 230pm, fasted from 1130hrs.
Operating theatre booked for 530pm surgery with Dr Terence Tan as the paed, and Dr Chong Jin Long as the anesthetist, and of coz Dr Chen as my gynae.

4pm - enema inserted to clear bowels
thereafter Mummy took a shower as she isnt sure when she will next be able to bathe!

5pm - Bed pushed to ward, mummy is to proceed to OT. OMG!

530pm - Dr Chen arrives on the dot, waiting for Dr Chong.
540pm - Dr Chong arrives and proceeds with the drip on the left hand, and thereafter admininsters the epidural on the spinal area.
Once confirmed that I do not feel any pain, Dr Chen proceeds to cut me up and Daddy James is brought into the OT. He holds my hand and it is again, a very touching moment coz Daddy James was reassuring me the whole time that everything will be ok. There was this extra tinge of softness in his voice and I trembled and shivered very violently from the epidural and coldness of the OT.
And then.... Dylan is out! Hapy birthday to my precious son, Dylan Ho Kai Le!

Dylan is born at 1749hrs, weighing 2.945kg. Height is 50cm and head circumference of 34cm.
All's well for Mummy and baby! :)

And here we are, a happy family of Four!
